“The first phone call? I made it to my mother as soon as I left the stage, and the first two times she didn’t answer me. Then she answered and said ‘sorry, I was in the square celebrating’. So I forgiven”. This is how the winner of the Sanremo 2023 festival jokes with Adnkronos Marco Mengoni, in the aftermath of the triumph on the Ariston stage ten years after the victory with ‘L’Essenziale’, where he won with the song ‘Due Vite’. On the winning piece, Mengoni underlines: “I wanted to say many things but certainly the most important that I experienced on my skin is that you need to know how to learn even from slaps – he explains – And be aware that you can sin in life, just recover and understand what what has happened. I hope it has arrived”.
A festival full of messages, often divisive but definitely strong. “Finally -Mengoni says without hesitation- This is also the festival, music must play an important role, culture must convey messages. We have a responsibility, many people who follow us, and I have experienced it myself in these thirteen years that the messages arrive”. A festival that Mengoni experienced with particular shared and spontaneous emotion. “This thing will never change, my emotionality is my strength and my weakness, I was very emotionally charged and I let myself go but they were tears of joy”, she says.
In addition to the main prize, the artist from Ronciglione also won the cover night. “I feel very impressed-she smiles she-she to have taken these awards, because I would remove all the leaves from this palm tree and give one to each of us”. Now it’s time for some rest. Or maybe not. “How do I rest? I don’t rest! What I could do now is take a shower and put on my pajamas,” she jokes.
