X5 President Lobacheva: Russian wine has risen in price by 5-7 percent over the year
On average, over the year, Russian wine has risen in price by 5-7 percent, imported wine by 10-20 percent. About this in an interview RBC said the president of X5 Group (retail chains Chizhik, Pyaterochka and Perekrestok) Ekaterina Lobacheva.
The rise in prices for foreign products is explained by an increase in duties on wine from unfriendly countries from 12.5 to 20 percent in August last year, she noted. As a result, in 2023, sales of wines from Europe and the United States grew by 9 percent in monetary terms, but in physical terms – by only 4 percent. At the same time, less wines from Italy and France were purchased than a year earlier.

Due to rising prices, cheap European wine at a price of up to 500 rubles per bottle is disappearing from the shelves of Russian retailers, and domestic winemakers have begun to occupy this niche. According to Lobacheva, the Russian industry is actively growing not only in the range, but also in the quality of wines. At the same time, Russian wine is also rising in price due to changes in the excise tax rate. Since May of this year, for still wines it has increased from 34 to 108 rubles, for sparkling wines – from 45 to 141 rubles per liter. On average, over the year, Russian wine has risen in price by 5-7 percent, imported wine by 10-20 percent, depending on the country of origin, said the company’s president.
Earlier it became known that in Russia they found a use for the money coming into the budget from the increased duty on imported wine. Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered that at least half of such income be allocated to finance the national project “Tourism and Hospitality.”
