The air blockade of Kaliningrad due to the fact that Estonia and Latvia closed the airspace for Russian aircraft is excluded. On Saturday, February 26, reports RIA News with reference to the head of the press service of the regional government Dmitry Lyskov.
“Residents of the Kaliningrad region will be able to fly to ‘big’ Russia via neutral waters and the Leningrad region,” Lyskov said.
According to him, this will increase the flight time, but will not greatly affect the cost of plane tickets.
Earlier it was reported that Latvia decided to close the republic’s airspace for Russian airlines due to the situation in Ukraine. The day before, a similar decision was announced by the Minister of Economics of Estonia.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special operation in the Donbass. Earlier, on February 21, he signed decrees recognizing the DPR and LPR and agreements on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with the republics. On February 24, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the introduction of martial law in Ukraine and the severance of diplomatic relations with the Russian side.
