The IGP-M (General Price-Market Index), known as “rent inflation”, rose 0.89% in May, demonstrating an acceleration in relation to the previous month, when the rate closed at 0.31%. A information was released this Wednesday (May 29, 2024) by FGV Ibre (Brazilian Institute of Economics linked to the Getúlio Vargas Foundation).
As a result, the index accumulates an increase of 0.28% in the year and a drop of 0.34% in the last 12 months. Compared to May of the previous year, the rate was -1.84% and accumulated a drop of 4.47% in the previous 12 months.
Meanwhile, the IPA (Broad Producer Price Index) for May rose 1.06%, after growth of 0.29% in the previous month.
This increase was mainly driven by the subgroup of processed foods, whose rate went from -0.39% to 1.07%, in the same interval.
Furthermore, the index corresponding to final goods, which excludes food subgroups in nature and fuels for consumption, varied from 0.05% in April to 0.50% in May.
The highlight is also driven by the prices of raw materials and intermediate goods. Among the positive influences on the index are iron ore, which rose from -4.78% to an increase of 8.18%, and soybean meal, which rose from -2.32% to 9.58%.
In relation to raw materials, there was an increase of 2.15% in May, while intermediate goods rose 1.03%, respectively 0.24% and 0.72% in the previous month.
Consumer prices
The IPC (Consumer Price Index) increased 0.44% in May, from an increase of 0.32% in April. The biggest impact came from the Education, Reading and Recreation group, whose variation rate went from -1.37% to 0.13%.
The groups Transport (0.24% to 0.66%), Health and Personal Care (0.63% to 0.78%), Communication (0.16% to 0.58%) also showed progress in their rates of change. ) and Miscellaneous Expenses (0.18% to 0.20%).
In the index, the price of gasoline increased from 0.30% to 1.70%, while airfare fell from -8.94% to rise 0.47%.
On the other hand, the groups Food (0.83% to 0.51%), Housing (0.54% to 0.29%) and Clothing (0.05% to -0.58%) had a drop in their rates of variation.
In these classes, the biggest influences came from: fruit (3.35% to -1.73%), residential electricity tariff (0.92% to 0.11%) and clothing (0.11% to -0.73 %).
Construction cost
In May, the INCC (Construction Cost Index) registered an increase of 0.59%, higher than the rate of 0.41% in the previous month.
From INCC, Materials and Equipment group went from 0.17% to 0.25%; the Services group grew from 0.29% to 0.50%; and the Labor group varied from 0.74% to 1.05%.
The IGP-M calculates producer, consumer and construction prices between the 21st of last month and the 20th of the month in question.
