The new sea canal in Päijänne would serve at least seven different provinces.

In Finland major new investment plans are needed to develop the country with EU support. Some rail projects are now in good spirits.
Land use for the new sea canal from Päijänne to Loviisa should also be taken into account in the railway design. It would open up great opportunities for various goods flows in less than half of Finland and would also serve the development of tourism.
From Päijänne to Iitti’s Pyhäjärvi, a water route through the renovated Kimola canal is already ready. As a follow-up, there is an urgent need to plan an extension canal from Pyhäjärvi via Artjärvi along the river route to Loviisa. The length of the canal would be about 40 kilometers. The new sea canal in Päijänne would serve at least seven different provinces from Southern Ostrobothnia via Central Finland, Päijät-Häme and Kymenlaakso to Uusimaa. Provinces now cooperate in the campaign.
As winters shorten, the life of the new channel would increase. It would also provide an alternative and competitive route to the Saimaa Canal if its use during a possible crisis were to be jeopardized or the neighboring country would increase its rent unreasonably. In the future, electric passenger ships will not endanger the purity of the waters. The waterway is neither worn nor dusty, it is said.
Future investment is now needed for EU funding. There are competing destinations in other countries.
