No, Sony is not stepping up PS4 production to meet the demand for PS5.
Recently, a Bloomberg report made its way onto the internet by rumors of a Playstation 4 production increase to make up for the absence of Playstation 5. Millanterie, it seems: the official denial has indeed arrived.
The Japanese site Gigazine has contacted Sony for clarification on the matter, and the Japanese giant has in fact denied the Bloomberg report specifying at the same time that there is no plan to stop the production of PS4 entirely: there is a model still in production, and it is the first model, that is the black 500 GB variant, while the others stopped in September two years ago.
In any case, Sony is not aiming for a mass production of PS4 to buffer, given the lack of availability of its latest generation hardware: the production of Old Gen consoles normally continues to go on as it has always been. Just think of the moment when the Playstation 2 finally stopped being produced: at the end of 2012, almost thirteen years after its release, in March 2000.
