The Head of State has reduced his salary by 60,000 euros: from the 239,000 euros (gross) that he would be entitled to by law to 179,000 euros per year
In this way, his annual salary will be equal to the pension he receives from INPS for his years as a university professor. Furthermore, Mattarella renounced the Istat adjustment, which based on the consumer price index would have earned him an increase of about 16,000 euros.
This is the second time that the President has made this choice, already adopted on the occasion of his first election to the Quirinale. Finally, Mattarella does not receive – nor will he receive in the future – the pension as a former parliamentarian, the so-called “annuity”.
