Its color does not make it less dangerous, on the contrary. Pink cocaine is increasingly widespread in Europe. This latest generation drug is a mixture of various synthetic substances such as “powders and tablets of Mdma and also ketamine”, a powerful analgesic-dissociative, “increasing the risk of involuntary consumption”. The European Drug Report 2024 has launched an alert on this product, “present on the drug market in the EU”. Among the various consumption trends, the report highlights the spread of ‘pink cocaine’ also in the Union.
What worries experts at the European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction (Emcdda) is in particular the possible presence of ketamine in mixtures sold under this name in Europe or other ingredients of which consumers are unaware. Pink cocaine, which also arrived in the old continent a couple of years ago, “has a longer history in Latin America, where it contains the substance 2CB, which is reflected in its other name ‘tucibi'”. 2C-B is a psychoactive substance belonging to the 2C phenylethylamine family, with predominantly psychedelic effects. “In Europe, however, several synthetic substances have been found in this brightly colored and characteristic product, including ketamine and Mdma – highlights the report – In many respects, pink cocaine is an example of the most sophisticated marketing of synthetic substances aimed at consumers, who likely have very little understanding of what chemicals they are actually taking.”
