Verstappen-Perez: there is no challenge in qualifying
Even on the last Saturday of the 2023 World Cup, at home Red Bull two different realities are experienced in Abu Dhabi: on the one hand there is the usual Max Verstappen, who with a time of 1:23.445 in the first run conquered the twelfth pole position of the season and the 32nd of his career, equaling Nigel Mansell in the standings all-time in 7th place. On the other hand, on the contrary, there is yet another colorless performance in qualifying of his teammate Sergio Perezeven on the edge of the top-10.
The ‘sentence’ of track limits
The Mexican, who initially obtained the 5th time, however had to deal with the decision of the Race Direction, which canceled his best performance for exceeding track limits. As a result, no longer counting on the fastest lap, ‘Checo’ was relegated to ninth positionbehind Nico Hülkenberg’s Haas with a gap of 63 thousandths and four tenths ahead of Pierre Gasly’s Alpine.
What went wrong?
A very disappointing performance for #11, described as follows by the vice-world champion: “Things were looking very good, we had a very competitive Q1 and Q2, but unfortunately in the end we weren’t able to put things together in Q3 and made the situation worse with the cancellation of the lap – commented – it was a bit of a disaster with the tire set, we had a driveability problem and then, unfortunately, my passage beyond the limits of the runway was noticed. I had a problem exiting the first corner and that made it very difficult for me to put together a lap, which in the end wasn’t very clean. The podium will be the goal tomorrow, nobody has much information on how he will behave in the race, so we’ll see, as I always say, anything can happen.”
