Mercedes on the podium
In this disappointing start to the championship, Mercedes had not yet reached the podium. The spell was broken at the ninth race of the season, that of Canada, in which George Russell took pole position and finished third under the checkered flag, just ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton.
Wolff happy for Russell
“When George put on the hard tyre, we made up ground and he showed great pace. For a moment we thought about victory, but we shouldn’t be too greedy“, Toto Wolff explained in the usual post-race meeting with journalists, adding: “On the one hand Russell was very brilliant on the other perhaps he could have avoided some mistakes. But what could have been is not relevant, what matters is having given the drivers a fast car.”
New updates
Toto Wolff then went into detail: “The positive aspect is that we have made a real step forward, we are bringing pieces and the direction of development is positive. The stopwatch will be the judge, but in the last three races we have brought many new parts, visible and less visible, which have contributed to increasing performance. In the factory we made a huge effort, from Imola onwards we took the right steps. We have new things coming, more updates for Barcelonawho should help us.”
