Meloni, the plans for the Revenue Agency: checks only on the big tax evaders
“Our motto will be ‘do not disturb those who want to do'”. In her long speech to the Chamber, Giorgia Meloni gave ample space to the economy, absolutely the theme more addressed in the hour and ten in which she addressed the deputies before trusting the government. The philosophy of the new executive is clear: “wealth is created by businesses with their workers, not the state by edict or decree”. Therefore, “those who today have the strength and the will to do business in Italy must be supported and facilitated, not harassed and viewed with suspicion”.
A “Copernican revolution” that will have to lead to a reduction in taxes, a “fiscal truce” and a “tight fight against tax evasion”. According to the Prime Minister, the work of the Revenue Agency will have to start from “total tax evaders, large companies and large VAT fraud” and should no longer be anchored to “simple disputes, as incredibly happened so far”. The reference is to the controls of the financial police at the commercial establishments to verify, for example, the issuance of receipts and the availability of the pos.
The hard fist against the big tax evaders and a softer line for the other taxpayers: the course traced by Meloni will result in a new amnesty, or even just a scrapping, for the tax bills. The measure could already find space in the first decree dedicated to expensive energy. According to La Repubblica, an amnesty is being studied for debts registered in the role until 2015, for amounts up to 2 thousand euros, and a new scrapping until June 2022 for larger debts, spread over five-year installments, with penalties and interest to 5 percent.
“Meloni in his programmatic statements mentioned the fight against tax evasion among the objectives of the new government. If a good day starts in the morning, Italy risks going in the exact opposite direction ”, commented the economic manager of the Democratic Party, Antonio Misiani.
