Red Bull fears
Already on the eve of Monaco Grand Prix in home Red Bull there was some concern about the characteristics of the track which did not match those of the RB20, and which contrasted with the optimism of McLaren and Ferrari. Sensations that had already been had in Imola, but which, unlike the positive results in Emilia-Romagna, found their effective confirmation in the Principality, with the 6th place of Max Verstappen and the bad accident at the start of Sergio Perez, who qualified only 18 °.
The question of curbs
A weekend that was analyzed by the Red Councilor Helmut Marko in its editorial on Speedweekwith the Austrian manager who first focused on the difficulties encountered and highlighted by Verstappen: “The Ferrari was flying over the curbs and was out of reach – He admitted – We had more trouble going over curbs, as the car jumped like a kangaroo. The car adapted relatively well to qualifying and we could assume that Max would be on the front row. But of course, when you have such a nervous car, even a driver like Max can make a mistake. Furthermore, he tried to maximize his time in the first sector, because it was the only one where we were faster than the Ferraris. And he did everything he could to minimize the loss of time in other areas.”
The simulator ‘joke’ again
In Red Bull, as admitted by Marko, there is a real contrast between the car’s performance in the simulator and in the virtual world, with the same problem already encountered in the previous races in Miami and Imola:” We are optimistic that we will be able to find out at least once why the simulator produces data that does not correspond to reality. But Montreal could also be a difficult weekend for us“.
