Nurmijärvi came up with an extraordinary way of trying to attract young people to take an interest in municipal politics.
The municipality published the agenda of the municipal council meeting in an easier-to-approach format than usual. Artificial intelligence transformed the wooden texts into music.
The council band of the hearts of the people of Nurmijärvi – from the album you can listen to matters to be decided in, among other things, pantyhose music, girl power pop, guitar blues and nostalgic fado.
The lyrics are mainly from the agenda of next Monday’s council meeting. The songs can be listened to, for example, on Spotify and YouTube.

Artificial intelligence performed the task given to it well, assessed the mayor Outi Mäkelä.
“The texts of the playlists are not necessarily terribly pop. When we’ve listened to the songs now, it’s encouraged us to sharpen the conciseness of our own texts.”
According to Mäkelä, the municipality wants to use music to appeal to all municipal residents, but especially young people.
“They are the most challenging target group for us in terms of communication. Young people’s media use has changed significantly in recent years, and the big question is how to get through the flood of social media.”
An idea father is Nurmijärvi’s communications manager Teemu Siltanenwho is familiar with artificial intelligence in his work.
“Until now, we have used artificial intelligence mainly in how we can explain ready-made texts and make announcements more concise,” says Mäkelä.
The municipality still has a long way to go to the hearts of the people.
On YouTube, Nurmijärvi’s meeting music had been listened to a few dozen times by Friday evening. The most popular was a song called Legality and quorum of the meeting.
There were also songs on the top three list Resigning Annika Laamane from positions of trust and Financial statement 2023.
