President questioned why PT did not attend the celebrations of 200 years of Independence of Brazil
The president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) criticized this Thursday (8.Aug.2022) the former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (EN) for not taking to the streets in the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the Independence of Brazil, on the 7th of September. The statement was made during the live President’s Weekly on his YouTube channel.
“Where did Lula go? He could have gone to [avenida] Paulista. He’s still on his honeymoon.”, he said. The president once again said that Lula, his main opponent in the dispute for the Planalto Palace, does not appear in public places because “can’t go out on the street”.
In addition to criticizing the fact that PT did not take to the streets for the bicentennial of Independence, the Chief Executive also attacked electoral polls of voting intentions, such as Datafolha.
According to the latest poll, Lula has 45% of voting intentions against 32% for Bolsonaro. “That guy [Lula] have 45% of the voting intentions? Does anyone think he will win the election?”said the president.
Bolsonaro has also responded to alleged criticisms alleging that he has “kidnapped” the Brazilian flag for ideological purposes. According to the Chief Executive, the “left” and the PT (Partido dos Trabalhadores) tore and burned the national flag.
“Today, the people identify the flag with me, with our candidates for Brazil, with good people”, he said. He also said that the flag belonged to the entire population and that the flag of the left was “red with a hammer and sickle”in reference to the flag of the extinct USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics).
