Mexico City.- It seems that the resolution of the Disciplinary Commission of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) on the case of the referee, Fernando Hernández, will take longer than estimated, since they continue to investigate the events that occurred at the Azteca stadium on Saturday.
The whistler gave a hard knee to the Argentine player, Lucas Romero, from Club León, after admonishing him for his constant claims just after validating the equalizing goal for the Águilas of Club América, as he asked him to review an alleged hand in the VAR of Israel Reyes.
Fernando Hernández did not hold back and raised his leg too high to attack him. The ‘Dog’ Romero felt the contact in the area of the testicles and immediately fell to the grass. The aggression was evidenced by the broadcast of the game and now the referee prays that he does not suffer a punishment that could end his career in professional football.
According to the competition regulations, Fernando Hernández could suffer a sanction of one to fifteen games. In chapter IV, article 20, subparagraph g), he explains: “Involving any type of violent conduct with the players, one to fifteen games of suspension and a fine of 90 to 500 UMAs.”
However, the sanction can go beyond a suspension. The former president of the Referees Commission, Edgardo Codesal, in an interview with ESPN, explained that “perhaps, unfortunately, the international badge that Fernando Hernández now holds is at risk, because surely the video has already gone around the world.”
He is not mistaken, because the news has spread internationally in the last few hours and “the case will already be heard by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). It must be remembered that the referee who wears the FIFA badge is a referee who He already belongs to the FIFA squad.”
“The body can now make direct decisions on any of the international referees, in any incident that happens.” added Edgardo Codesal.
For a colleague to have the privilege of the international badge, Edgardo Codesal explained: “First of all, the referee must have refereed for two consecutive years in the Professional League of his country and be over 26 years of age. And according to his performances, The federations have the right to propose a list of up to ten international referees”.

“The federations cannot name, and in FIFA they ‘check’, or not. And if they have any precedent, or if they have any discrepancies or observations, they automatically let them know, or they reject the proposal. FIFA is the one who decides,” he remarked.
