A father and his daughter, both Jews, were violently attacked this Friday (17) at a train station located in the city of Brugge, Belgium, after removing stickers against Israel that were displayed around the place.
Information about the aggression between the two, whose videos are being shared on social media, was released by the Israeli broadcaster Channel 12which highlighted the rise of anti-Semitic acts in Europe.
The attack occurred when the father, identified as Amnon, a 64-year-old man, decided to remove stickers with messages against Israel that were posted at the station. His daughter, named Shira, aged 29, was filming the action when a group of still unidentified individuals began attacking them. They managed to escape briefly, but another attacker caught up with Amnon, knocking him to the ground and twisting his leg.
Amnon was hospitalized with a broken jaw, while Shira, who was recording the scene, managed to avoid serious injuries. Both father and daughter, who Channel 12 claiming to be Jews and from Israel, were deeply shaken by what happened.
The director of the European Jewish Association, Mencahem Margolin, issued a statement about the incident, warning about the escalation of anti-Semitic violence on the European continent.
“This is no longer just about verbal violence or spitting, but about real physical attacks that can end in disaster,” Margolin said when sharing the video of the attack on social media. He also called on local law enforcement authorities to arrest those responsible and charge them with hate crimes, “and be punished to the fullest extent of the law.”
The attack that took place this Friday highlights the growing concern of Jews about the security of their communities in Europe. Margolin emphasized the urgency of effective measures to prevent new attacks that could have even more serious consequences.
“We demand that the police investigate this case immediately, arresting and charging everyone involved; you have the footage, so do your job,” he said on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
