Exploring new boundaries does not only mean offering unique off-road performance but also knowing how to adapt to the mobility of the future. The draft version of Wrangler shares the design with the endothermic version. The Jeep model therefore always boasts a massive appearance, with the sculpted lines and functional elements that immediately identify this car in the range of the American brand. At the front, the typical 7-slot grille still stands out, with circular headlights, with accents in Electric Blue embellishing the ‘Jeep’, ‘4xe’, ‘Trail Rated’ badges and the ‘Wrangler Unlimited’ lettering. Trapezoidal wheel arches further define the Wrangler 4xe’s road presence, embracing alloy wheels with dedicated styling. Inside the passenger compartment we find an environment that once again follows the tradition of the model, while introducing some high-tech elements that underline the modern vocation of the plug-in hybrid version. Behind the steering wheel there is a 7 “color TFT display while embedded in the dashboard is the touchscreen of the infotainment system, an 8.4” screen based on the Uconnect NAV system that allows the integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Car. From here you can also check the charging status of the batteries while on the side of the steering instead we find the E-Selec buttons, with three electrified driving modes.
In the city or off-road, Jeep Wrangler 4xe guarantees optimal performance thanks to an advanced powertrain that combines a 2.0 turbocharged petrol engine, two electric motogenerators, a 17 kWh battery pack. (400 Volt) and the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission. The system produces a total of 380 hp and 637 Nm of maximum torque. The first electric unit is located in the front and can work both in conjunction with the petrol engine and as a high voltage generator while the second motor generator is located on the transmission, generating traction force and allowing energy recovery during braking. The Wrangler 4xe can travel in full electric guaranteeing a range of 50 km. On the Jeep PHEV model there are also two clutches that allow you to manage torque and power: the first clutch is located between the two units and when it is open it allows you to travel in 100% electric mode while when it is closed the two motors are connected and combine. The second clutch is located behind the second electric unit and takes care of the interaction with the transmission. Placing the batteries under the second row of seats also made it possible to offer a load capacity of 533 liters, the same as the luggage compartment in the configuration with seats in the upright position of the versions with internal combustion engine.
The ADAS is equipped with a wide range of equipment, which as standard include Blind-spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path Detection, the rear camera, electronic stability control (ESC) with ERM (Electronic Roll Mitigation) rollover system, front and rear park assist and Keyless system. Enter ‘N Go. Optional Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning Plus and new front camera. Above the wheel arch front then on the left there is the charging socket which is protected by a lid with a pressure opening and closing system and has a colored LED indicator that indicates its operation. There are several possibilities to fill up on energy, with the Jeep Wrangler 4xe which is compatible with public and domestic charging solutions with easyWallbox. The latter allows to recover the autonomy in full electric in less than three hours at 7.4 kW.
The plug-in hybrid version of Wrangler 4xe is versatile thanks to the driving modes that allow you to choose the one that best suits our needs, if you simply want to go far or take advantage of off-road capabilities with the help of electrified traction. The off-road experience is benefited by the presence of the electric locks of the front and rear differentials and the Selec-Trac or Rock-Trac technology. In spite of its tonnage, with 2300 kg in running order, the American model knows how to be manageable and offer consumption, after all, even above expectations. The first electrified Wrangler is available in two productions: Wrangler Sahara 4xe and Wrangler Rubicon 4xe, to which in the course of 2021 it was added for a limited time. The “80th Anniversary” Wrangler which celebrated the brand’s important birthday. There are ten liveries available, in our case we have chosen the Firecraker Red, with all the solutions that can be combined with different roof configurations, from the soft top to the dual top. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe price list starts at 72,900 euros for the Sahara version and 74,400 euros for the Rubicon.
