Iranian authorities have arrested 35 people accused of participating in a “Satanist meeting” in the province of Khuzestan, in the southwest of the country. According to the police, the group, made up of 31 men and 4 women, was found using alcohol and drugs. There were satanic symbols in the place. The information is from AFP and the Iranian news agency Isna.
In the country, arrests associated with “satanic encounters” are not uncommon. Often, parties and rock shows are given this classification by authorities. Furthermore, alcohol consumption is prohibited.
On May 17, another 260 people were arrested in Tehran, the Iranian capital, for using “clothing with obscene and Satanist-related emblems”.
Similar episodes also occurred in previous years. There were at least 3 cases, according to Deutsche Welle:
- July 2009 – police arrested 3 people for “worship Satan” in the province of Ardebil;
- May 2009 – Iranian authorities detained 104 “Satan worshipers” at a party in Shiraz, people were accused of “drink blood”;
- 2007 – police arrested 230 people at an illegal rock concert near Tehran.
