Valentino’s future Rossi in motorsport it is called Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe. As announced in January, the Doctor will race with the Wrt team and drive an Audi R8 Lms. This is a new challenge for the nine-time MotoGP champion, while for team principal Vincent Vosse it’s a dream come true (and how not to believe it). A dream he had been chasing for a decade.
“When Rossi switched from Yamaha to Ducati in 2011, and the latter switched to Audi the following year, I went to Audi and asked if it was possible to make a Ducati car and put Rossi on the track. On the other hand, I’m a fan of MotoGP and you can’t be if you’re not Rossi’s fan, or at least if you don’t have respect for what he has achieved in his career“, Vosse told a SportsCar365. “It was clear that he wanted to switch to four wheels. I have tried to contact him in various ways over the past five years, but have never been able to. Then I got a staff contact for him, to whom I emailed. He answered me after a few weeks, around July 2021, and from there the relationships continued, until the video call at the end of August, where I explained to him how I would see his future for him. Then there was the Valencia test last December, it went well. I didn’t expect anything different from his approach and the quality of his feedback. The way he adapted was impressive: he is not a nine-time world champion by accident. He is competitive, he wants to understand everything: it is clear that he does not race just to have fun“.
