Sixteen bodies were found on Saturday in the Mexican state of Zacatecas, believed to have been killed by gang violence. Mexican authorities report this.
Francisco Murillo, Zacatecas’ prosecutor, said they found 10 bodies wrapped in blankets in the city of Fresnillo. Six victims are said to have “hung in the air” in a department store in the nearby town of Panfilo Natera. The day before, two suspects would have been arrested who would have transported a body. They could also be connected to the bodies found, Murillo said.
Lately, more and more dead bodies have been found in Zacatecas. Last month, for example, authorities found 10 more bodies in an abandoned vehicle in the historic center of the city’s capital, also called Zacatecas. The vehicle was parked near state government offices.
The number of murders in Zacatecas has risen sharply in the past year. In 2021, the state recorded 1,050 murders. that is 200 more than the year before. That number is expected to be even higher this year.
