Vasseur comments on the podium in Imola
Frederic Vasseur, after the Miami GP, had invited fans to calm down and not to have too many expectations on the updates of the SF-24. Updates that on the Santerno route have allowed the Ferrari to gain ground on rivals in terms of seconds but not positions. Charles Leclerc’s podium in Imola tells a story already seen in Miami, with the Red team being the third force albeit “in the lead” of Red Bull and McLaren.
Vasseur’s words
After Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren have introduced their first major package, it is safe to assume that from now on the battle will be decided on a driving, development and track level. Team principal Vasseur also supports this: “The order on the grid will be different track after trackbecause it will depend on the set-up and characteristics of the cars“, this is his comment to Sky Sport F1. “We will go to Monte-Carlo and Canada, on two totally different tracks, and this will generate different rankings. This is good for the show and for F1. I don’t want to set new goals for the season, I just want to do a better job than this weekend so that we can grow step by step and take the right direction.“.
“We have mixed feelings, because today I think it was impossible to do better of what we did: it was very difficult to overcome. When we pushed we managed to get close, but then we overheated the tires and there wasn’t enough difference to overtake. Yesterday we could have done a better job in qualifying, starting from the front it would have been a different story, but now let’s focus on Monaco. We will start from scratch next week“.
“What’s good for F1 is that there were three teams within six seconds after 60 laps, and that means there is less than a tenth of a difference between the three cars. It was like this yesterday too and it’s very good for the future of the championship. We are on pace and fighting with them, we definitely need to take another step forward, but every weekend will be different, and I hope there is a different outcome in Monte-Carlo“, he concluded. “Monaco is such an atypical track that we don’t have enough information, but I’m sure we will have two extremely motivated drivers. We have all the characteristics to do a good job there“.
