Mexico City.- By 2038, with the circulation of 6.4 million electric vehicles in the country, the Government expects gas stations to grow 8.5 times.
According to the Electricity Sector Development Program (Prodesen), prepared by the Ministry of Energy (Sener), of the 2,541 charging stations that were registered at the end of 2021, there will be 21,799 by 2038.
However, there are important challenges to address, such as the approval of chargers, since the existence of different types affects users and implies multiple efforts to try to install different equipment in the same place, say experts.
“It is urgent to standardize the connector so that it is universal. We have Chinese, European and American and that only multiplies by three the investment in infrastructure and divides the charging capacity by three,” said the president of the Mexican Impulse Association. Electric Vehicle (Amive), Francisco Cabeza.
That is why the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is already working on the design and execution of public policies to promote the development of electromobility and to do so it is considering the installation of 100 universal, public and free electric stations in Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara, being one of the cities most affected by vehicular pollution.
It also considers the deployment of electrical corridors distributed in 10 states of the Republic: Morelos, CDMX, State of Mexico, Querétaro, Guanajuato, Jalisco and Aguascalientes.
One of the corridors, the north, will cover from the North American city of McAllen, to Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Nuevo León and Coahuila.
