Presented in the form of a concept car only last weekend at Villa d’Este, the elegant roadster from the German car manufacturer could make its entry into the assembly lines: the details are still very limited and a final decision has yet to be made. taken, but there is talk of a limited production 20-25 units by 2026.

This was made known by Adrian van Hooydonk, head of design at the BMW Group, who, referring to the high prices of the BMW Z8 in the used car market, stated that the company could put the Skytop Concept into production for 20-25 lucky customers if there was adequate demand.
It’s not the first time…
It’s not the first time that ideas of this kind have flashed in BMW’s mind. Last year, again in the setting of Villa d’Este, the German brand unveiled the Touring Coupé Concept based on the Z4, opening the door to possible series production (at the time there was talk of a thousand examples). An ambitious project, which not surprisingly in the end never saw the light. We’ll see if it will be different this time: the premises seem to be the same, perhaps BMW’s will is different.
BMW M8 Competition heritage
In the event of entry into series production, the new BMW Skytop would take advantage of the proven underpinnings of the M8 Competition, including its powerful Twin-turbo V8 4.4 liter engine that delivers 625 HP of total power and 750 Nm of maximum torque, all combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission and the M xDrive system. According to Carscoops, the official debut of the Skytop could take place around the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026, and it cannot be ruled out that, given the exclusivity of the car, the specifications mentioned above could be further increased.
