Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that newly formed election police have arrested 20 ex-criminals accused of voting illegally in the 2020 presidential election.
Surrounded by members of the new Office of Election Crime Police and Security, DeSantis said the former criminal offenders, all of whom have been convicted of murder or other crimes, will be charged with election fraud, a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
In 2018, Florida voters overwhelmingly voted to restore voting rights to criminals, excluding those convicted of murder.
