Abu Dhabi Police called on families, as part of the “#Our Winter is Safe and Enjoyable” campaign, to monitor children, especially when they approach windows, to protect them from accidents falling from balconies, and to reinforce preventive requirements in buildings or residential buildings “villas”.
She explained that with the advent of winter and the opening of windows in buildings and residences to listen to the fresh air, young children may be too close to the locations of balconies and windows, which poses a great danger to them, stressing the need to establish controls for the use of balconies not only for young children but for adults as well.
And she warned of the dangers of leaving pieces of furniture next to the windows to avoid being used by children for the purpose of curiosity, which leads to tragic falls.
She stressed the importance of closing all windows for the safety of children, especially when they are not in use and in the presence of parents, because most windows are easy to open by sliding even by a small child, and it is important to ensure that they are closed tightly.
She called for the necessity of installing metal bars on the windows, which contributes to protecting children from falling, provided that the best types are chosen and the distance between them is close, so as not to allow the child to get out of them, and at the same time they have a mechanism or a safe way to open when fires.
She urged the need to install window bumpers and to ensure that safety and security factors are always provided for children in terms of ensuring that families keep all furniture away from the windows, and keep large children’s toys away, as the child can push the lightweight pieces to the side of the window and climb on it to see what is going on in the street driven by children’s curiosity; causing it to fall to the bottom.
She stressed the need to always close the balcony, put the key in a place where children cannot reach, and not to use the balcony as a place for older children to entertain visitors, when parents are outside the house, and to make sure that there is nothing that enables the child to climb onto the balcony walls or bars to hang on.
