Mexico City.- The mayor of Tláhuac, Berenice Hernandez Calderon, in the company of their counterparts Clara Brugada Molina, mayor of Iztapalapa, Armando Quintero Martí- mayor of Iztacalco, Judith Vanegas Tapia- mayor of Milpa Alta and representatives of the Xochimilco and Venustiano Carranza mayors, met offering a press conference to inaugurate the park “ANIMAL WORLD”, which is the largest of its kind in CDMX.
In addition to this, they also announced the creation of a veterinary hospital in the municipality of Tláhuac, in order to provide specialized care to pets in the demarcation and surroundings, which will specialize in advanced medical care for dogs and cats and will have medical consultations, rabies vaccines, specialty surgeries and additional services such as hospitalization and radiological studies at costs very accessible.
Among other projects contemplated this year in favor of animal protection, is the awareness of responsible ownership, preventive health, sterilization and measures to help homeless animals.

The mayor of Iztapalapa, Clara Brugada, stressed that animal welfare is not a minor issue, but should be a priority in all mayors. He reported that, in Iztapalapa, in three years, 58 thousand 480 free feline and canine sterilization surgeries have been performed, through 4 thousand 987 days. He recalled that the Constitution of Mexico City recognizes pets as sentient beings with rights and announced that this year the Iztapalapa mayor’s office intends to sterilize 30,000 pets.
For her part, the mayor of Milpa Alta, Judith Vanegas Tapiareported that the serious problem with street dogs has become a public health problem, for which a collaboration agreement was signed on January 20 with the Animal Care Agency of Mexico City (Agatan ) and the civil association “Ethics Interspecies”.
In the name of Mayor of Xochimilco, Jose Carlos Acosta Ruiz and the General Director of Administration, Erika Lizeth Rosales Medina, highlighted that in their demarcation several projects are at the door in conjunction with other mayors for animal welfare, also highlighting the importance of respect for any living being in the family nucleus.
