It is suitable for everyone, at any age. Here you are the perfect sport swimming to have a toned and harmonious body. The premises are there, but some precautions must be taken: even if practiced in a micro-gravity environment. In a amateur workout, a swimmer can go up to 500-600 strokes, a professional even at 8000-12000. An effort for our shoulders that if not properly trained could meet principles of inflammation. “The main mistake that many make when going into the pool is not considering that the number of strokes and muscles not trained to swim increase the risk of inflaming the structures of the rotator cuff – explains Andrea Lisai, orthopedist of Humanitas San Pio X. Pain, muscle weakness, limitation of movement are the common symptoms of inflammation. In the movement of the stroke, the scapulo-humeral jointee structures musculo-tendon of the rotator cuff that keep it stable, are subjected to excessive stress exerted by the opposite force that the resistance of the water operates on the hand. Stroke after stroke increases the tension on the structures tendon-capsular-ligamentous of the shoulder up to inflammation, a situation that can become complicated in tearing of the tendons with advancing age because with the years decreases blood flow to the joint and, consequently, of fibrous proteins, essential for muscles and tendons. Furthermore, diabetes and smoking are declared enemies of tendons ”.
