The 2021 MotoGP season was once again marked by the effects of the pandemic that hit the calendar. Even though the number of Grands Prix went from 15 last year to 18 in 2021, we didn’t go to Asia and three tracks doubled.
After the logical decrease in accidents in 2020, the number of falls has increased again this year, with a total of 950 across the three categories. With an average of 51 for each grand prix, the figure was slightly lower than in 2019, confirming the downward trend from 2017’s record of 1126.
To take home the “prize” for the highest number of crashes is Iker Lecuona, who said goodbye to MotoGP with 26 crashes. Marc Márquez, despite the absence in four Grands Prix, is once again at the top of the standings with 22 crashes. In Moto2, Aron Canet has had the highest number of falls (21), while in Moto3 the highest number of falls is that of Kaito Toba (19).
The French Grand Prix alone had more than a hundred accidents (118), and this brings him to the top of this ranking for the third year in a row. The Le Mans circuit also has another world record, Turn 3 saw 37 crashes over the course of the weekend.
