Max Verstappen took victory in the Mexico City Grand Prix. For the Dutch Red Bull this is the ninth success of the season, which allows him to further extend his margin in the standings on Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion crossed the line in second position, resisting the charge of the local idol in the final Sergio Perez, on the second Milton Keynes car. The top three finishers were interviewed by David Coulthard.
Max Verstappen (1st, Red Bull): “Incredible audience. Having Checo as a companion when you come to Mexico is great. But even before that, the fans here are incredible every time. They love F1. It is really very nice to be here. Departure? The track was wide and it allowed me this. We had to try to brake as late as possible and I succeeded. I went from third to first and this was my turning point. I could only focus on myself. The car had an incredible pace. Title? The road is long. It went well, but things can change quickly. In Brazil I have many good memories, now I look at this ”.
Lewis Hamilton (2nd, Mercedes): “First of all congratulations to Max. His car was really too strong today, we couldn’t do anything about it. I gave everything I had. In the end it was a good battle with Sergio, I am grateful to have won at least second place. Pressure? It is something that I have experienced many times. For me it is easy to hold it. But that shows how fast his car is. The fact that Checo came so close to me and was able to follow me, being attacked. It put a lot of pressure on me, it was very fast. I liked the race a lot anyway ”.
Sergio Perez (3rd, Red Bull): “Clearly I wish I had more today. I wanted to bring a double to the team, but I didn’t have any real chance to pass Lewis. I have given everything for these people. I could hear them as I passed the stadium area. The support from the public was fantastic ”.
