United States|When it enters into force, the decision will affect approximately 600,000 schoolchildren or students.
Los Angeles education officials late Tuesday local time passed a decision ordering officials to prepare for a ban on cell phones and social media during the school day.
“Schools that have already implemented a phone-free school day have reported amazing results: the children are happier, they talk to each other and their grades have increased,” explained the person who proposed the ban Nick Melvoin.
With the authorities there are now four months to draw up guidelines to get rid of cell phones in schools. When it enters into force, the decision will affect approximately 600,000 schoolchildren or students.
Governor of California Gavin Newsom said before the education authorities’ decision that he supported banning cell phones in all schools in the state.
“When children or teenagers are in school, they should be focused on studying, not staring at a screen,” Newsom reasoned.
The use of cell phones during the school day is already prohibited in Florida. Several other states are also planning bans or restrictions on the use of phones during the school day.
