At the end of the month, Xbox will lose marketing chief Jerret Westwho will go to work for Roblox as CMO and as head of the department responsible for expanding the platform’s market. The confirmation came from Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencerwho spoke about it in an internal message to the company.
West is a historical name of Xbox: in the early 2000s he spent eight years in the company, leaving in 2011, when he joined Netflix. He returned to Xbox in 2019, however lead marketing of Xbox Series X/S. His team is responsible for marketing the games, hardware and Xbox Game Pass. With its release, Microsoft has decided to reshuffle the cards, expanding the functions of the team of Kirsten Ward, VP of integrated marketing of Xbox.
Air of change
Furthermore, the Redmond house wants to bring marketing closer to the business it has to deal with, so games will be managed internally by the division directed by Matt Booty, which deals with games and content. Xbox Marketing, directed by Chris Lee, will report directly to President Sarah Bond.
West’s departure from the company is the second major one this year, following that of Kareem Choudhry, Xbox’s head of emerging technologies, in April, which led to a centralization of his department’s functions similar to that which occurred with marketing .
After all, major changes have been taking place within Microsoft for several months, with the entire management group having been revolutionized a few months ago, when Bond was appointed president of Xbox and Booty was put in charge of the aforementioned division that deals with of games and content and whose duties include oversight of all Xbox Game Studios, including those of Bethesda and ZeniMax.
