Ex-military of the Swiss General Staff Baud: refusal to negotiate drove Kyiv into a trap
Retired Colonel of the Swiss General Staff Jacques Baude said that the decision of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to refuse negotiations with Russia drove Kyiv into a trap. He discussed this topic in an interview YouTube-channel Daniel Davis / Deep Dive.
“We see that Zelensky is actually afraid to negotiate and, in fact, issued a decree that prevents any negotiations with Russia. (…) Now they have fallen into such a trap, they have driven themselves into it,” Bod said.
The expert called Zelensky’s current situation bad because, as Bod noted, the Ukrainian leader knows that he cannot succeed. “The idea is to weaken, (…) bleed Russia, but the problem is that Russia is not bleeded—Ukraine is bleeded, and we are now in a situation where Ukraine has fallen into its own trap,” says the former military.
On June 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that a ceasefire in the zone of a special military operation is possible if two conditions are met: Ukraine will begin to withdraw troops from the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, the Lugansk and Donetsk people’s republics, and will also officially notify of its refusal to join NATO.
