Riccardo Magi ad Business: “In Albania I saw the candidate Meloni. The migrant centers? The absolute void”. PHOTO
It ended in the worst possible way expedition of the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni by his counterpart Edi Rama in Albania, to visit the Shengjin facility ready to welcome migrants arriving from Italy, as part of the Pact signed last year with the Prime Minister of Tirana. At the exit of the joint press conference, in fact, the +Europa MP Riccardo Magi, who had physically presented himself to criticize the confirmed agreements between the two states regarding the management of migrants, was stopped and dragged by the Albanian police forces. The situation is degenerate quickly, enough to force Meloni to get out of the car to calm things down. Souls which, however, have not calmed down at all, given the back-and-forth that then arose between the prime minister accused of having disguised her-her’s electoral advert with her visit to Albania and Magi himself.
And, in fact, one is not far from the truth in stating that in the last hours of the campaign for the European elections the Prime Minister responded to the issue of migration, finding support in Edi Rama, or rather one sponsor (?) to the government’s hard line. Line enriched by the complaint to the Anti-Mafia commission on the latest flow decrees.
But let’s get back to the Honorable Member Riccardo Magiwho before being attacked and pushed by Albanian security had presented himself with an eloquent speech sign “Italy-Albania Agreement. A billion. Electoral hotspot”. “My message must have made Giorgia Meloni very nervous” commented ad Affaritaliani.it who reached him by telephone.
You defined the Prime Minister’s visit to Albania as an electoral advert, why?
I actually defined it – with a sad play on words – as an electoral “hotspot”. There is no other way to explain such a presentation for what was supposed to be an institutional meeting. I arrived here this morning precisely to understand if it was a visit in which it could be clarified how this structure for migrants will work, and in this sense I wanted to exercise my prerogatives as a parliamentarian over a part of Albanian territory where there is and will be jurisdiction Italian.
And instead?
Instead I found myself faced with an electoral initiative from candidate Meloni. On the functioning of the protocol, of the structures for migrants. Is the port facility, for example, a hotspot? Is it a first reception centre? Which people will get there? Where will the screening be done to evaluate vulnerable people who according to the law should not be brought to Albania? Who are the institutional figures who will carry out this screening?. And nothing has yet been said about the expenses, given that this affair here will certainly amount to no less than a billion euros in the coming years.
Prime Minister Edi Rama expressed great praise to the Prime Minister…But because the conference was a jumble of good intentions, good feelings. The friendship between the two countries was flaunted but absolute nothing was said regarding the functioning of this center, which being “Italian territory” must be governed by Italian law and European law.

Does the complaint to the Anti-Mafia Commission also consider it part of Meloni’s election advert?
Decidedly. The prime minister has had two years to realize that the Bossi-Fini law doesn’t work. More than a complaint to the Anti-Mafia commission, I expected a change in the legislation: I remind you that our proposal signed by all the opposition has already been deposited in the Constitutional Affairs commission. Why didn’t Meloni start the discussion?
So what is your solution for the correct management of migratory flows?
For years we have been proposing, from the point of view of national legislation, an overcoming of the Bossi-Fini rule which Meloni now also seems to have arrived at. A more flexible mechanism that allows the regularization of those who are in our country and have an employer who intends to hire them. At a European level, however, the overcoming of the Dublin regulation, blocked in the European Council by Meloni’s allies, in particular by Orban.
The welcome you were given was certainly not warm…
If such treatment is reserved for a parliamentarian for a non-violent expression of thought on an institutional occasion in front of the cameras… I am worried about the people who, exhausted after a rescue at sea, will be placed in a center without anyone being able to verify their conditions and guarantees of their rights.
