Dua Lipa called on her 88 million followers to “show solidarity with Gaza,” according to Agence France-Presse.
On Tuesday, the star published a photo of a campaign poster for the group “Artists for a ceasefireArtists4Ceasefire, and accompanied the photo with a comment that said: “Burning children alive cannot be justified at all. The whole world is moving to end the Israeli genocide. Show your solidarity with Gaza, please.”
Condemnations and calls for a ceasefire have increased since Sunday after two Israeli raids on two refugee camps in Rafah, resulting in about 60 deaths, according to the Civil Defense and the Ministry of Health in Gaza.
Thus, the death toll in the besieged Gaza Strip rose to 36,171, most of them children and women, according to data issued Wednesday by the Ministry of Health in Gaza.
Dua Lipa, 28 years old and from Kosovo, has been advocating for the rights of Palestinians.
The singer, whose latest album, “Radical Optimism,” was released last May, had previously written in December on Instagram that she was “desperately” waiting for a ceasefire.
Before the current war on Gaza, she also criticized the actions of the Israeli army and called for the independence of Palestine.
The Artists4Ceasefire group was created a few days after the Hamas attack on the Gaza Strip settlements on October 7.
This group includes dozens of international actors, musicians, and artists who demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and signed an open letter addressed to US President Joe Biden.
These include Dua Lipa and singer Annie Lennox, Palestinian-origin models Gigi and Bella Hadid, and actors Mark Ruffalo and Rami Youssef.
2,000 British artists, including actors Tilda Swinton, Charles Dance and Steve Coogan, also signed a letter in October, calling on the government to end “military and political support for Israeli actions.”
