The independence movement is moving to try to protect its power in the Parliament Table after the elections on May 12 in which it lost its absolute majority. The CUP candidate for the Catalan elections, Laia Estrada, announced this Wednesday that her party has maintained contacts with ERC and Junts to form what she has called an “anti-repressive” Roundtable. The intention of the anti-system party is to prevent the PSC from assuming its presidency, in a maneuver that would imply the presence of the PP at the Table. The anti-system leader, she has assured, plans to include the Comuns in her political strategy. Given the disposition of the CUP, Salvador Illa (PSC), winner of the elections, has asked the rest of the formations to “respect” the results of 12-M.
“A presidency of the Parliament that is in the hands of ERC and the independence movement is, obviously, preferable to any other alternative, of course,” Estrada shared on Catalunya Ràdio, who added the need to have a “guarantee” Table with the rights of deputies to be able to debate “anything” in parliament.
Estrada has also announced that the anti-system will speak electronically this week with the Junts candidate, Carles Puigdemont, to address a possible investiture. In an intervention on La 2, he made it clear that they will not facilitate a Government that consists of “restoring the old Convergència”, although he has stated that they could try to reach an agreement with Junts if the objective is to “advance in the processes “independence.” The eventual investiture of former presidentIn any case, it depends on the abstention of the PSC and Estrada has admitted that the socialists’ open door is unlikely.
The negotiations for the investiture and the composition of the Parliament’s Board coincide with a campaign for the European elections that has slowed everything down. ERC already named the negotiating team last Monday and has assured that it maintains informal contacts with the rest of the independence groups.
In response to the CUP movement, the leader of the PSC, Salvador Illa, has warned that he is going “down the wrong path” if the parties do not “respect” the “clear and forceful” result of the 12M in the formation of the Table of the Parliament. At an event in Terrassa (Barcelona), Illa stressed that “the parties that have no respect for what citizens expressed at the polls and that want to block, hinder and mess things up are wrong.” “Anything that involves moving away from scrupulous respect for the will expressed at the polls is going in the wrong direction,” he emphasized. The presidency of the Parliament is a key position from which to control the functioning of the chamber, since one of the first decisions of the new president will be to decide who calls first to undergo an investiture. Puigdemont, despite having come second, claims his right to be nominated for the investiture with the argument that a possible combination of pro-independence parties has more deputies than a combination of the PSC and the common ones.
Illa has stressed that the negotiation of both the Parliamentary Board and the investiture of the president of the Generalitat must “respond” to the will expressed by the Catalans in the 12M elections, which the PSC won clearly and the independence movement lost its majority. absolute.

Jordi Turull, general secretary of Junts, has accused the socialist leader of using “the same arguments as Feijóo against Sánchez.” In a reaction on his personal profile on the social network “To mess things up is to campaign by saying that the right must stand and then agree, vote and demonstrate alongside it,” he added.
The composition of the Parliament’s Board will be voted on next June 10, just one day after the European elections. For this reason, the parties are moving with all caution, since they do not want to reveal their pact strategy in the middle of the electoral campaign.
