Israeli Channel 12 said that water washed away part of the American floating pier to the shores of the sea in Ashdod, about a week after its opening.
Channel 12 explained that part of the American naval pier broke off and washed ashore in Ashdod, apparently due to the force of the sea waves.
She added that naval forces arrived at the scene and helped tie the drifting part in order to retrieve it, but no injuries were reported as a result of the accident.
For its part, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth explained that the separate part of the floating port was an “American barge” that was being transported by a warship to the pier off Gaza.
She said that the barge separated from the ship due to the high waves, and began to drift towards the shore of Ashdod.
She indicated that the American warship tried to rescue her, but it also broke down, and another ship present in the area was called to assist in the rescue operation.
It is noteworthy that the cost of constructing the floating dock in Gaza, which opened last week, may reach $320 million, and would provide a new route for the flow of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in the Strip.
