Exclusive routes will be sold on both companies’ sales channels, increasing the flight offer
The airlines Blue It is GOAL announced on Thursday (May 23, 2024) a commercial cooperation agreement that will connect their airline networks in Brazil. According to the companies, the “codeshare” partnership includes exclusive domestic routes, that is, operated by only one of the two companies.
Codeshare (“code sharing”, in free translation) is the name given to the commercial agreement made between airlines to expand the flight offer. Consumers who purchase tickets from one of the companies may be directed to board flights from the other.
The agreement includes loyalty programs, allowing members of Azul Fidelidade and GOL’s Smiles to accumulate points or miles in the program of their choice when purchasing the segments included in the codeshare.
According to a statement released by the airlines, the commercial partnership will come into force on “June’s end”. The date was not specified. Read the full press releases issued by her Blue (PDF – 80 kB) and by GOAL (PDF – 218 kB).
“This agreement will bring enormous benefits to our customers. Both companies have a history of aviation development in Brazil, focused on excellence in customer service. With Azul’s highly connected network serving most cities in Brazil and GOL’s strong presence in key Brazilian markets, our complementary offerings will provide customers with the widest range of travel options”, said Abhi Shah, president of Azul.
“GOL and Azul have always been committed to expanding the Brazilian aviation market. This codeshare agreement will provide customers with access to even more options for traveling around our country. GOL already offers more than 60 different commercial agreements with many global partner airlines and we look forward to expanding this benefit within Brazil as well.”, said Celso Ferrer, CEO of GOL.
Azul and GOL make around 1,500 takeoffs daily. The agreement will create more than 2,700 one-connection travel opportunities, the companies said.
HOW IT WILL WORK
Azul and GOL’s exclusive routes will be sold through both’s sales channels. Destinations operated by both companies are not codeshared.
Check-in must be done via digital channels or counters at the airports of the airline operating the flight – or the first leg, when there is a connection, regardless of the company that sold the ticket. The same rule applies to baggage check-in.
Rebookings and cancellations of reservations must be made through the service channels of the company that sold the ticket.
