Is 65,000 Euro for an almost 350 hp two-seater roadster with gull-wing doors a super deal, or will you go for this electric Chinese blepper?
The market for two-seater convertibles is as good as dead. It was once teeming with MGFs, Fiat Barchettas, Alfa Romeo Spiders, BMW Z3s, Toyota MR2s and of course Mazda MX-5s. But after years of being milked and crushed by modern Marxism, Jan Modaal has none joie de vivre and more money for this kind of frivolity. The Z4 is dying and the MX-5 will soon be on its own. As far as one can still speak of an empire.

But perhaps the salvation will come from China. MG, maker of sad lofts, is coming up with the Cyberster. This is a sparkling two-seater roadster, on battery power. This makes it the second electric open sports car on the market, next to the Maserati Grancabrio Folglore. But, it is three times as expensive. Other brands have proposed concepts, but so far nothing has generally come to fruition.
The MG has received an award in Europe. Or well, in the United Kingdom. There you pay almost 55,000 pounds for the entry-level entry (Trophy), the equivalent of around 65,000 Euros. That version has just under 350 hp. Normally this would mean a lot of money for the Netherlands. But this is an EV, so we assume a very comparable amount. For 5,000 Ekker pounds more, you get the 'GT' with a major power upgrade to 500 hp. In the latter case, the Cyberster is also seriously fast.

Zero to 96 then takes 3.2 seconds (5 seconds for the basic version). Both versions have a 77 kWh battery, good for a WLTP range of approximately 500 kilometers (316 miles) for the basic variant and 440 kilometers for the more powerful version. Externally, the differences are limited to the rim size. The entry-level has 19″, the GT has dub zeros.
In the interior there is a large screen in front of you. How could it be different. It's a sort of cockpit feeling, with a 12.5-inch screen in the middle, flanked by two smaller 7-inch screens on either side. That doesn't necessarily warm us up. But fortunately, seat heating is also standard.

Secretly, it's all just pretty cool. Also the rear lights with the arrows as indicators. But yes, you do support Xi Jinping in taking over the world if you buy. That's a bit of an annoyance. Or well, if we have to choose between a Chinese social credit system or a woke social credit system for and by EU apparatchiks, then it will be difficult to choose… An Emira and a Cyberster?
