At least five people were stabbed to death this SaturdayApril 13, in a shopping center in Sydney, in an attack in which several more people were injured and whose alleged perpetrator was shot dead by the Australian Police, official sources and local media reported.
Anthony Cooke, assistant commissioner of the New South Wales State Police, said in statements reported on state television ABC that “Five people have died as a result of the criminal's actions.”
“Several other people have been taken to the hospital,” added the police officer, who specified that several of them are in serious condition.
Cooke pointed out that the attacks had been carried out by a single individual, shot dead by the Police, although previous information said that the agents were looking for a second attacker.
“According to preliminary investigations, it appears that this person has acted alone”Cooke added.
Waverley Council, the Sydney district where the incident occurred, indicated on social network X that emergency services went to the well-known shopping center Westfield Bondi Junction “after reports that several people were stabbed.”
According to ABCthe New South Wales Ambulance Service noted that at least seven people were stabbedincluding a nine-month-old baby, and have been transferred to the nearest hospitals.
