Daylight saving time forever, all the benefits
Proponents of permanent daylight saving time believe that moving the clock is no longer a necessity as there has been a complete transition from an agricultural to a modern society. The advantages would therefore be:
- TERNA, the Italian Energy Agency, estimates a saving of 420 million kilowatt hours of electricity thanks to summer time in the last 7 months of 2022, equal to 190 million euros, with summer time
- Over the last 15 years, 10 billion kilowatt hours less would be consumed with summer time, for a total of 1.8 billion euros saved.
- an estimated reduction of 500 million euros in annual energy spending and a cut in emissions of 200 thousand tons of CO2 per year
- the inconvenience of the transition from solar time to summer time would no longer be felt, i.e. a loss of hours of sleep considered negative by 84% of citizens
