Biden talks separately with Netanyahu and Abbas
The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, spoke by phone this Saturday with the President of the United States, Joe Biden; the fifth conversation that both have had since the attack on the 7th committed in Israeli territory by Hamas militiamen and which has triggered the current war situation in the Gaza Strip.
A statement from his Office indicates that Netanyahu has thanked Biden for the deep support of the United States to Israel, as well as the visits of the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and of Defense, Lloyd Austin, in recent days. Both have agreed to stay in contact.
Biden has also had a telephone conversation with the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, who has asked Biden to open humanitarian corridors in the Gaza Strip for the entry of water, electricity, fuel and medical supplies. Furthermore, he has highlighted “the need to stop all attacks and respect International Humanitarian Law”, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa. This is the first conversation between Abbas and Biden since the war broke out.
