The smart cities I am at the heart of the country’s digitization process, with investments in ICT solutions growing up to 1.6 billion euros in Italy by 2027, over 100 billion euros of European resources of which 10 billion from the Pnrr and a global spending value of over one thousand billion dollars. This is what emerges from the reportThe Italy of smart and sustainable cities’ made by Study Center TIM – the main Italian telephone company – in collaboration with the ‘Smart City’ and ‘Startup Intelligence’ Observatories of the Politecnico di Milano and with the Department of Engineering, ICT and Technologies for Energy and Transport of CNR. The study, presented today in Rome, highlights how in the period 2023-2027 Smart City applications based on 5G, IoT and Artificial Intelligence in Italy will contribute to reduce the costs of city traffic by around 6.5 billion euros overall and more than 400 million euros related to urban pollution. New technologies will also allow for a annual reduction of approximately 650 thousand tons of CO2 emissions.
“There is so much confusion about Smart Cities, the word is often used as a container suitable for everything and so there is the risk of weakening the choices of mayors and administrators who have a fundamental role in innovation of the territories they govern – he explains Elio SchiavoChief Enterprise and Innovative Solutions Officer TIM – We are the largest ICT platform in the country, and we are the only ones that have proprietary services. This is Tim’s true distinctive asset. We will be protagonists of the country’s digitization process“. “With TIM Urban Genius – continues Tim’s manager – we have created the first urban intelligence platform which allows all Italian administrations to make their territories intelligent, as a primary source of collection of information useful for the life of citizens”.
