During tonight’s State of Play, Sony is back talking about PlayStation Starsthe loyalty program of its users, showing in preview some of the collectible items that can be obtained. Let’s see them in this video:
The objects are: a scene with Punto the gondolier from Ape Escape 2, the PlayStation 3, the PocketStation, Toro and Kuro celebrating the birthday, the Chord Machine and Polygon Man (the PlayStation mascot that no one will ever forget).
In a post on the PlayStation BlogSony then reiterated that the PlayStation Stars subscription will be completely free, and then explains what digital collectibles are:
Digital collectibles represent the items most appreciated by PlayStation fans and include the most famous peripherals that have allowed Sony to make a mark in the history of consumer electronics.
Created exclusively for PlayStation Stars, these digital collectibles can only be obtained through our loyalty program. In some cases, collectibles will be made available to commemorate activities, milestones or products purchased. They will vary depending on the rarity, just like the actual products they are based on, or depending on the effort required to obtain them. Once you have the collectibles, you can place them on a virtual board within the PlayStation App and, if you like, you can show it to friends within your PSN profile. There will be a variety of ways to acquire or obtain these collectibles, but the primary method will be to complete campaigns.
Campaigns in PlayStation Stars will be fun, enjoyable, and yes, sometimes challenging to complete. A campaign can consist of an activity that will earn you points or collectibles. One of our first campaigns will be called “Hit Play / 1994”: subscribers will have to start the correct games based on the clues in the songs to receive a special collectible.
Sony also announced that the PlayStation Stars program will initially be launched on PlayStation App, and then land on the console. By the end of September it should be active in Asia, including Japan, to go further into America and Europe.
Ten games were shown during the same State of Play, with the highlight being the new trailer for God of War Ragnarok.
