Crime reporter John van den Heuvel has been threatened with death from a Colombian cell by Saïd R., the right-hand man of Ridouan Taghi. That writes NU.nl based on messages they have seen.
Van den Heuvel has had the strictest possible security for many years. Saïd R. was arrested at the beginning of 2020 after a year-long manhunt, but after his arrest continued to threaten the Telegraph-news reporter. The communication of liquidation suspect R. dates from August 2020, six months after his arrest. In messages attributed to the criminal leader, he says that the journalist must pay. “He thinks he’s safe now” and “hope he moves more.”
The direct reason for the threat is the alleged contact between Van den Heuvel and a criminal rival of R. The criminal is not mentioned by name, but he is said to be part of a collaboration of criminal organizations against Taghi.
Van den Heuvel response: ‘paranoid thinking pattern’
Van den Heuvel says in a response to this site: “This does not surprise me. It is yet another proof that some suspects in the Marengo case also continue to engage in illegal activities from prison. I am happy with good protection by the DKDB (the Royal and Diplomatic Security Service, ed.), but unfortunately it is not only possible from Colombia but also from Dutch prisons to continue criminal activities. Incidentally, it is complete nonsense that I worked with Nabil B. or with an ‘alliance’. It just reflects the paranoid and criminal mindset of some criminals.”
