From the original announcement of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power there had not been much news about it, but today things have changed with images fresh out of the oven. Specifically, the orcs were shown, characters that are apparently going to look very different compared to the movies.
Given this, the main actors in the series confirmed that this aesthetic change will not only be made due to a reboot, but that the narrative is linked to this change implemented in Middle Earth. In addition, it has been mentioned that these characters will evolve in the future, resulting in the appearance that we have known for more than 20 years.
This is what the executive producer told him Lindsey Weber in the middle IGN:
We spent a lot of time talking about what it would mean to be an orc in the Second Age. It seemed fitting that his appearance was different, part of a wilder, rawer Second Age of Middle-earth, closer to where the First Age ends. When we meet them, they are not yet organized into armies, they are a bit more spread out and have been looking for garbage. So it’s just a different time in their history.
The head of the prosthetics department, jamie wilsoncommented the following:
The orcs somehow disappeared. Everyone thought: ‘Yay, they have been erased from Middle-earth.’ But they actually went back into the darkness in little groups, hid and lived in tunnels and sort of under Middle Earth, because that’s the only way they could hide. So this is really your return as you reform under the so-called new leader who will guide you forward.
Remember that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premieres the September 1 in Amazon Prime Video.
