Hayter, 23 years old and a runner who combines the track with the road, beat Australian Rohan Dennis (Jumbo-Visma), world time trial champion in 2018 and winner of the prologue in this race last year, by 3.92 seconds. and in 9.38 seconds to the Austrian Felix Grossschartner (Bora Hansgrohe).
The first leader of the 75th edition of this test is at the same time the British time trial champion, current world champion in the omnium and Olympic runner-up in the American race.

‘Rigo’, the best of Colombians
Rigoberto Urán from Antioquia was the best of the Colombians in the initial time trial of the race. The EF man came in 27th place, 22 seconds behind the time set by the leader.
Brandon Rivera, from Ineos, came in 62nd place, 29 seconds behind Hayter. Higuita, from Bora, was 84, 33 seconds behind. Gaviria, from the UAE, finished in 99th place, 37 seconds behind Hayter.
