Reading of the holy gospel according to Saint Luke (9,28b-36):
At that time, Jesus called Peter, John and James and went up to the top of the mountain to pray. And, as he prayed, the look of his face changed, his clothes shone white. Suddenly, two men were conversing with him: they were Moses and Elijah, who, appearing in glory, spoke of his death, which he was going to consummate in Jerusalem. Pedro and his companions fell asleep; and, waking up, they saw his glory and the two men who were with him.
As they walked away, Peter said to Jesus: «Teacher, how good it is here. We will make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” He didn’t know what he was saying.
He was still talking, when a cloud came and covered them. They got scared when they entered the cloud. A voice from the cloud said: “This is my son, the chosen one, listen to him.”
When the voice sounded, Jesus was found alone. They kept silent and, for the moment, did not tell anyone anything of what they had seen. Lord’s word.
The evangelist Luke presents us with Jesus as the Lord of history and, for this reason, the passage of Scripture that we read and listen to today allows us to ask ourselves personally and in community the question of whether, in fact, is God “the Lord ” of my personal history and my family?
In the text, we read that Jesus, when accompanied by his closest disciples to pray on the mountain, appears radiant surrounded by two important characters in the history of Israel: Moses (as the liberator of the chosen people) and Elijah (as the Prophet that tells us that God is the foundation of the same people). What is interesting is that in this episode Jesus himself takes with him people who seem very simple, limited and dominated by sleep… Indeed, the objective is very clear, to discover that the greatness of Jesus cannot remain an anecdotal memory. , but also we, who now accompany Jesus, because he has called us like the apostles, do the same to discover his majestic presence… And how to do it? following him, listening to the voice of God and letting it fill us with enthusiasm so that, like Peter, we set up enough “tents” for Jesus to stay in our midst.
We will have to listen to the voice of God and continue transforming the environment in which he has placed us and we live, so that our lives become something more worthy and habitable, defending the values that make us human and closer; building a world where we know ourselves as people, with our rights well established and with opportunities to continue growing in all areas, which allow us to reflect the love that God has for us and the reestablishment of his Kingdom to be true brothers, part of a Church : family of God and our family.
Let us allow ourselves to be guided by God, accept his invitation to be with him and do our part to transform the world that entrusts us to a home of peace.
