Doctors, veterinarians, pharmacists, psychologists, biologists, chemists, nurses, technicians, administrators, operators and employees of the health and hospital companies of the National Health Service, under the umbrella of 7 trade unions of the sector and of the medical management, met today in Rome and have set in motion a movement that identifies with the anger of hundreds of thousands of healthcare workers and gathers their energy. At the end of the initiative, a document was unanimously voted on which brings together a shared platform in defense of the NHS. “Today’s initiative, which approved a joint motion by acclamation, represents the opening of a dispute that will affect all NHS workers – say the unions – but which, above all, will involve citizens who are increasingly dissatisfied users. We, the operators, do public health for all citizens, every hour of the day, every day of the year. Everyone must and can do something to get back their free, welcoming, supportive, professional, fair and efficient healthcare.”
The 7 acronyms are: FP Cgil, Uil Fpl, Nursind, Nursing Up, Aaroi-Emac, Fassid and Fvm (Federation of veterinary doctors and healthcare managers). “It cannot be accepted – the unions underline in a joint note – that a public heritage of solidarity and professional excellence is sold off on the private market due to incapacity, or to monetize the possibilities of treatment for the benefit of insurance companies or other health traders. one of the shames of this country is that of having 6 million poor people, including poor workers, whose families must be guaranteed at least healthcare at the level appropriate to a G7 country, and who instead are left without care, in the inequalities of a differentiated autonomy that will bring the healthcare of the South to sidereal distances from that of the North”.
“Our colleagues – the trade union acronyms point out – cannot continue to work in increasingly precarious and dangerous conditions to give the population healthcare that is increasingly less guaranteed by the various political forces which, succeeding each other in government, they should make it a priority by electoral mandate, but instead they have consistently cut it for decades due to lack of resources. And yet it is not true that in Italy there are no resources to finance public healthcare like in Germany or France, it is not true that. the decline of the NHS is inevitable – they continue – until the renunciation of 600 billion euros of unpaid taxes in past years and the impunity that tax evasion continues to enjoy which every year takes away from public resources. 80 billion a year will be counterbalanced by greater health guarantees for tax evaders compared to those for those who pay all the taxes, as well as cuts in pensions and increases in public salaries that are lower than inflation”.
“The employees of the NHS – continue the unions – cannot passively witness this acceleration towards the disaster of the NHS, while they should also tolerate continuing to be used as a silent ATM, and in the meantime, with the decree on waiting lists, from the timing questionable at the very least, organizational makeover operations are being carried out which, without resources, will increase the workload of professionals and favor the outsourcing of services. The time has come to invest in staff – the workers conclude – to strengthen services healthcare, to provide answers to unanswered questions, to encourage prevention, early diagnostics and screening which also have the advantage of saving the National Health Service, if diseases are prevented or treated as soon as they are detected. The time has come to claim without hesitation the enforceability of the fundamental rights dictated by the Constitution”.
