Heavy rains that have been hitting El Salvador since last Friday have caused the death of 11 people and forced more than 880 people to evacuate their homes, according to the National Commission for Civil Protection.
Juan Carlos Bidegin, Minister of the Salvadoran Interior, said that last Sunday, Parliament declared a national state of emergency for 15 days to help protect lives. Meanwhile, Fernando Lopez, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, explained that weather conditions may begin to improve by tomorrow, Wednesday.
The El Salvador government reported that the rains have so far caused 42 landslides.
On the other hand, the authorities in Guatemala announced the death of two people in the village of Chakaya in the western municipality of Sacapolas as a result of heavy rains.
