In 90min we had the opportunity to talk with Zoe Tapia, a former player from Querétaro, Puebla and Cruz Azul, and she told us all about her experiences in the Liga MX Femenil and the current situation that our Mexican women’s soccer is going through.
How did your career start in the Liga MX Femenil?
Excellent, my first team was Pachuca, where we made history by being the first champion by winning the Cup tournament and from there, we traveled to San Antonio, Texas with Manuel Vidrio to consolidate the team. From there, I make my debut in the Apertura 2017 on matchday 2 as a starter against Tiburonas Rojas de Veracruz.
My journey in Tuzas ended after that semester and from there I arrived in Querétaro.
How was your passage through Querétaro?
There we achieved great things, we managed to beat the undefeated team, I had my best football moment contributing goals, consolidating myself in various positions and meeting various faces within the coaching staff. From there, the pandemic crosses us and they send us to our homes.
I am from the State of Mexico and there I decided to quarantine and we were left with the uncertainty of knowing what was going to happen until the end of the tournament was canceled.
Well, in Gallos Blancos we knew that a restructuring was coming due to the change of owners, we knew that we could be there or not and unfortunately I was one of those who did not continue with the next plan when Carla Rossi arrived.
After your departure from Gallos, you arrive in Puebla and suffer from an injury. How did you experience it?
It was complicated because there was a pandemic, but I was already in talks with the one who was DT from Puebla at that time, Professor Jorge Gómez and he had invited me to go and once I could not stay in Gallos I accepted Professor Jorge’s offer and I have the misfortune to injure myself very early. It was my first muscle injury and I didn’t know how to deal with it mentally or how long it would take to recover. I had a pretty bad time, I missed a lot of games, I couldn’t get back to the level that neither they nor I expected with the club and that as a consequence did not allow me to continue the next tournament and Cruz Azul is the one who says “well, let’s talk to her” .
You arrive at Cruz Azul and you get injured. How was that time?
I go for a couple of days to some training sessions that they had started and Professor Beto talks to me and says “I want you to stay” and the main objective of Cruz Azul was to find a league. Unfortunately, it can’t be done, I don’t have so many minutes and the same story, I can’t continue the next tournament and personally things are complicated for me, because I have an opportunity to play abroad, I decide to access, I felt happy, fulfilled and I said “I think this is when I can go” but things were delayed and in the inter-game the Scorpiones Women’s team, which is where I play now.

Do you have a special moment as a footballer that you never forget?
In Gallos I have several moments, but one of the ones that stands out the most is the day of my first double. Matchday 1, we had to play against Tigres who had just won the championship. We were losing 3-0, there was a play on the wing, I made a pass through the center of the field, I raised my face and said “let’s hit him”, I hit him quite hard and although the defense manages to get the ball out, he was already inside. Right away there is a corner kick, they send the ball, there is a slice, I turn 180 degrees and make it 3-2.
Of course I also remember a lot my first goal that was against Necaxa, I celebrated it a lot and the message I left was that I could help the next generations, hoping that they can enjoy a much more consolidated league than it already is.
Will Zoe Tapia return to the Liga MX Femenil?
Of course I’ll do it. I have the illusion of returning. We made very good friends and those moments of work as an institution were unforgettable. I can tell you that it may not be today, it may not be soon, but I will return to the league because I want to.
